The baseball season has finally arrived, and Mother Nature has been mostly nice—at least, we’ve been very lucky on Wednesday nights in the Rally Caps League!
Rally Caps, also known as T-ball, is a league for four- to six-year-old children who are just getting into baseball or softball. The program is focused on teaching children basic skills, like how to hold and throw a ball, how to hold and swing a bat, and which direction to run the bases. Instead of just playing games, the children are split up into groups and rotate between playing a game and skill stations. Every so often, the kids are able to earn caps of different colours at evaluations. The colours represent different skill levels.
This year, 38 children are signed up, divided into six teams: the Blue Jays, Raptors, Lady Bugs, Lightning, Ninja Turtles, and Jackhammer.
The Rally Cap program is also focused on getting parents involved. It’s hard for one assistant coach to make sure their group of little ones are always learning, having fun, and staying safe! Adults and children are paired up when learning skills, to avoid injuries.
The program relies heavily on parents playing ball with their children. This often brings out a love of coaching in parents, which helps to keep the program alive in Niverville.
