It was a very forgettable evening at the CRRC on Wednesday evening as the Niverville Nighthawks fell 6–2 to the Winnipeg Freeze. With the loss, the Nighthawks stay in fourth place in the MJHL’s East Division with a record of 15–11–1.
The Nighthawks were nowhere to be seen in the first period as Winnipeg scored three unanswered goals to jump out to a 3–0 lead.
In the second period, Michael Debrito scored his eleventh goal of the season to cut it to 3–1, but the home team would get no closer.
Winnipeg scored another two goals in the second period and added another in the third period, although Debrito did score his twelfth goal of the season and second tally of the contest in the third period.
Keegan Gordon stopped 19 shots in the Nighthawks’ goal in the loss.
Tonight’s game was the first without Nighthawks head coach Kelvin Cech, as he is coaching Team Canada West at the 2023 World Junior A Hockey Challenge in Truro, Nova Scotia, from December 10–17. Nighthawks forward Nathan Brown is joining Cech and will also be missing from action in Niverville until after the holidays.
The Nighthawks are back in action with another home game on Saturday, December 9 against the Swan Valley Stampeders. The puck drops at 7:00 p.m.
