Niverville’s council is taking a new approach to dealing with homeowners who allow their properties to become overgrown with weeds.
The town’s former policy stipulated that they would step in, complete the work themselves, and then send the owner a bill for the work. With the Public Works Department stretched thin, they have decided to outsource any weed control that needs to be completed on private property.
Going forward, the town will pass on the cost of the outsourcing in addition to a $100 administrative fee. The steep cost, according to town councillors, is intentional in order to discourage residents from letting their properties become overgrown.
