Last October, Deb Brissette opened the Highlands Art Studio out of her home in Niverville. Brissette offers art lessons to children on Wednesday and Thursday evenings, and also facilitates paint parties. She has also taught classes in other towns throughout the region, including St. Pierre-Jolys, Ste. Agathe, and St. Malo.

February in Canada is “I Love to Read” month. To start off the month right, Niverville Elementary School’s Literacy Committee invited the crew from the Manitoba Theatre for Young People (MTYP) to perform for the students. 

This month, I’m taking a different spin on Fitville and talking about getting creative and finding my inner artist. I had to dig deep to find it, but it was there hiding in the corner of my body, shaking as I grabbed it and dusted it off.

The musical stylings of Jordan St. Cyr have become well known in the Christian music industry recently, especially with the release of his first single across Canada last year, “I Look to Jesus.” The song got him a Covenant Award nomination for Pop Song of the Year.

Back in high school, most of us fit into some sort of clique. Maybe you were known as the nerd, the jock, the preppy kid, or the punk rocker. Or perhaps you were known as the class clown, the kid who made everyone laugh and also made the teachers say, “Quit fooling around!”

Audrey Meisner, best-selling author and my best friend, has just launched her fourth book, Wake Up Smiling: 40 Days to a Hope-filled Life. A native Winnipegger, Meisner may be remembered for her popular local children’s television show Sonshiny Day and for hosting the long-running television ministry It’s a New Day with her parents, Betty and Willard Thiessen.
