“I walked up to the front door and rang the bell. As I stood there, I felt apprehensive. What would he say or do? How would he react to my impromptu presence? Would he scowl, swear, even close the door in may face? It was the moment of truth. He opened the door and in his first glance I read apprehension. But then he must have spotted the pizza box in my hands, held out in front like a peace offering.”

For the second year in a row, the Niverville Heritage Centre will play host to a New Year’s Eve party for the community. The event will take place in the full ballroom, which can hold up to 400 people. All that space will likely be needed, since last year’s inaugural party had 359 attendees.

It’s been exactly 150 years since the first wave of Mennonites arrived in Manitoba back in 1874. Over the course of the next few years, around 7,000 of these people of faith left imperial Russia on the promise of religious freedom and military exemption overseas.

On August 23, Trevor Lux of Niverville released his new music video, filmed close to home in Hespeler Park—and the song is a cover of a popular song from the 1960s that Lux feels is just as relevant today as it was back then.

Continuing in their efforts to support Indigenous reconciliation in Manitoba, the provincial government has earmarked $25,000 in sponsorship funding for the world premiere of the Anishinaabemowin (Ojibwe) version of Star Wars: A New Hope.

This August, Jordan St. Cyr will perform his first hometown show since 2017. Not only is he excited to play in Niverville after being away for a couple of years, but he’s also pleased to be performing with Winnipeg legend Steve Bell, who St. Cyr calls “the quintessential artist.”
