New Bothwell is hosting its annual Winter Carnival this weekend, with events kicking off on Friday evening at the town’s recreation centre.
Doors open for the cribbage tournament at 6:00 p.m. on February 8, where teams can register for $20. A family-friendly event, the evening will play host to a variety of activities sure to cater to all interests. People of all ages can participate in skating and the toboggan slide before warming up by the bonfire. Once everyone is tuckered out from the cold, the rec centre will show a children’s movie at 7:00 p.m. Their canteen will be open.
The festivities continue Saturday morning with a pancake breakfast from 8:30–10:00 a.m. Indoor and outdoor activities are planned throughout the day, including a colouring contest, a performance by Maggie the Clown in the afternoon, and games in the Curbside Gamebox Truck, a luxury limo-style video game hub.
The annual bingo and ice scrambles will take place starting at 2:00 p.m., including the first annual Squeaker Cup, which is a four-on-four tennis ball hockey game. The weekend will end with a silent auction at 7:00 p.m.
Niverville Family Snow Day
Later in the month, Niverville Recreation will host their yearly Niverville Family Snow Day. The event will take place on Saturday, February 23 from 11 a.m.–2:00 p.m. at the Niverville Arena. Activities include free speed skating from 11:30 a.m.–1:00 p.m., where coaches from the Manitoba Speed Skating Association will be on hand to help. Public skating on the outdoor rink will also be available, or you can try your hand at snowshoeing.
Guests can warm up afterward by heading into the south end of the arena for hot chocolate and a winter craft.
