The Niverville High School’s new hockey team recently wrapped up their inaugural season in the Winnipeg High School Hockey League.
The Panthers finished in sixth place after the regular season with a record of 15–9–0. In the playoffs, Niverville won their first-round matchup over the Windsor Park Royals in two straight games. They then lost their best-of-three quarterfinal series against Lorette in three games.
The Winnipeg High School Hockey All-Star Game was also held on March 23 at Seven Oaks Arena. Three players from Niverville were selected to participate. Cassius Walker, Lucas Schepp, and Haven Wiebe all performed admirably in the all-star game, including scoring a goal.
“As a first-year program, we had hoped to be competitive in our games, and we were,” says head coach Brandon Lockerby. “It’s been a lot of fun coaching these talented young players and we had a great season in getting to the second round of the playoffs. Next season, we hope we can continue to build the hockey program at Niverville High School and do even better.”
