Adults and youth of Niverville will have no excuse to sit on their backsides during the lazy months of summer. The town’s recreation department has made sure of this by preparing a full line-up of sports programming for everyone at the Community Recreation and Resource Centre (CRRC).

Pickleball is a relatively new sport to the local arena, but its beginnings can be traced back to 1965. The sport combines elements from a number of different racket sports, such as badminton and tennis.

Pickleball enthusiasts and novices will have access to the CRRC courts on Monday and Wednesday mornings as well as Tuesday evenings. Even families can give the sport a go during the Tuesday hours just prior to adult Pickleball.

The local badminton club will heat up the courts every Monday evening and volleyball and dodgeball will take place back-to-back every Wednesday night. Thursday will be basketball night at the CRRC gym.

Youth from Grades Five to Eight will have their own dedicated sports programming all summer. The CRRC will host basketball and dodgeball Mondays, volleyball Tuesdays, and floor ringette on Thursdays.

Programs coordinator Chantel Todd says that interested participants can preregister for any of the sports online or pay the drop-in fee at the CRRC office on arrival.

But you don’t have to love sports to enjoy summer activities. Todd is currently working on adult workshops she calls “Art in the Park.” More details will be posted on the Town of Niverville website in the coming weeks.
