The weather in southeast Manitoba has continued to be warm and dry since the snow disappeared several weeks ago, and in that time many local municipalities have enacted fire bans. This week, the RM of Ritchot and RM of Hanover were the latest to take this step.
The bans extend across the entire of these municipalities and the goal is eliminate fires in grass and brush.
The RM of Ritchot has a three-level system designed to gauge the risk posed by fires—low risk, high risk, and extreme risk.
The current level is categorized as high risk. This means that no open-air fires are allowed, except in fire pits, outdoor barbecues, outdoor fireplaces, and outdoor warming receptacles.
The bans are expected to last until conditions improve.
To learn more about what kind of receptacles are allowed, visit the RM of Ritchot’s website: https://www.ritchot.com/p/fire-restrictions-defined.
Any questions regarding the restrictions can be directed to the municipal fire chief at 204-981-3199.
