The Niverville Nighthawks improved to 3–0 in the preseason with a commanding 4–1 win over the Selkirk Steelers on Tuesday evening.
In the fight to make the Nighthawks opening night roster, several players on the bubble are making strong cases for themselves.
The Steelers got on the scoreboard first in the opening frame, but the Nighthawks got going in the second period with a pair of goals from Lucas Bertolin, a first-year player who is trying to make the club.
In the third period, the Nighthawks pulled away with two more goals, one each from Evan Panzer and Aidan Corbett, both notching their first tallies of the preseason.
When the final horn sounded, the Nighthawks were the big victors.
The Nighthawks received solid goaltending from both Joseph Bertram and Austin Dubinsky, who made a combined 27 saves on the night.
The Nighthawks are back in preseason action, once again versus the Steelers, at home on September 11. The puck drops at 7:30 p.m.
