There’s not much to say as the Niverville Nighthawks fell 7–1 to the Virden Oil Capitals on Friday night after one of their poorest performances of the season. With the loss, the Nighthawks stay in fourth place in the MJHL’s East Division with a record of 23–18–3.
Virden scored four times in the first period and three times in the third period in a game that they dominated from start to finish, outshooting the Nighthawks by a 50–16 count. Colin Whaley of Niverville broke the Oil Capitals’ netminder’s bid for a shutout with two minutes remaining in the game for his third goal of the season.
Raiden LeGall stopped 43 shots in goal.
“It was just not a great game for us,” said forward Brendan Bottem. “Virden was the better team the entire night, and we didn’t play very well. So we’ll have to correct some things if we’re going to start scoring more goals and being successful going forward.”
The Nighthawks are back in action on February 14 with a road game against the Winkler Flyers. The puck drops at 7:00 p.m.
“There are some things we can tighten up in practice this week that will hopefully give us the best chance to play better and give Winkler a good battle.”
