The Niverville Nighthawks continued their winning ways on Tuesday evening on the road, outscoring the Selkirk Steelers by 8–6 scoreline. With the win, they stay in fifth place in the MJHL’s East Division with a record of 17–9–1.
It was a last-goal-wins type of game all the way through, with a lot of offence and no defence for both teams. There were several lead changes. The teams combined for three goals in the first period, six in the second period, and five in the third period.
When the dust settled, Niverville had clung on long enough to claim victory. It’s a big win considering that the Steelers are a team they’re chasing in the East Division playoff race.
Hayden Wheddon led the way for Niverville with a pair of goals, while Bryce Warkentine, Dawson Zeller, Ty Kennett, Evan Panzer, Matteo Speranza, and Luke Mackenzie had the team’s other tallies.
Niverville’s Connor Graham stopped 37 shots in net for the win.
“It was a big win tonight, as we were not going to be denied,” says Nighthawks head coach Dwight Hirst. “It was not at all how we planned it, but at the end of the day I guess we found a way to win. It’s always crucial to get points within the division, so beating Selkirk tonight was huge.”
The Nighthawks are back in action with a home game on December 7 against the Northern Manitoba Blizzard. The puck drops at 7:00 p.m.
