On Saturday night at the CRRC, the Niverville Nighthawks wrapped up their preseason with a 4–2 loss to the Steinbach Pistons. After four straight wins, this brought their preseason record to 4–1.
The Pistons got on the scoreboard first in the opening period to lead 1–0. And that’s where the score remained for nearly a period and a half. It wasn’t until the third period that the floodgates opened.
In the final period, Ty Kennett scored for Niverville to tie the game, before Steinbach scored a pair to lead 3–1. Adam Vigfusson got Niverville one closer, but then Steinbach added an insurance tally to put the game out of reach.
The Nighthawks outshot the Pistons 36–34 on the night.
Perhaps the highlight of the night was the return of star Niverville netminder Raiden LeGall, who stopped 18 of 19 shots in his season debut.
Joseph Bertram also played half the game in goal for Niverville and stopped 12 of 15 shots.
The Nighthawks will wrap up training camp this week and get set for the season opener on Friday, September 20 at home against the Winnipeg Freeze. The puck drops at 7:30 p.m.
Stay tuned this week for an exclusive season preview of the Nighthawks’ upcoming 2024–2025 season.
