The Niverville Nighthawks earned a massive 6–1 win over the Winnipeg Freeze on Saturday evening to boost their playoff chances. With the win, the Nighthawks stay in fourth place by a three-point lead in the MJHL’s East Division with a record of 28–24–4.
Niverville found its offence early in the game, scoring five minutes into the contest and never looking back. They found the back of the net three times in the first period, twice in the second period, and once in the third period as they rolled to victory.
Brendan Bottem led the offensive charge for the Nighthawks with a hat trick, while Michael Tanchak, Josh Danis, and Michael Debrito had the other goals.
“I felt good tonight,” said Bottem. “It was nice to get on the scoreboard after a tough game last night.”
“I liked our response and how quick we can have a response after a tough loss the night prior,” added Nighthawks head coach Dwight Hirst. “It was very important to get in the driver’s seat early and dictate our game with some early goals.”
The Nighthawks are back in action with a road game next weekend against the Virden Oil Capitals on March 15. The puck drops at 7:30 p.m.
“I think we have been off to some better starts lately,” said Bottem. “It’s definitely nice not having to chase the game. We have to keep playing well the rest of the way because there is no room for error anymore.”
