The Niverville Nighthawks once again found themselves on the losing side after falling 4–2 to the Dauphin Kings on Saturday evening on the road. With the loss, the Nighthawks stay in fourth place in the MJHL’s East Division with a record of 30–18–3.
The match started off promising. Matteo Speranza opened the scoring with his seventeenth goal of the season late in the first period.
After a scoreless second period, though, Dauphin came up with four goals in the third period, while Niverville only found the back of the net once, with a tally from Hayden Wheddon.
Niverville’s Austin Dubinsky stopped 34 shots in goal for the loss.
“The penalties to start the third period gave them some momentum,” says Nighthawks head coach Dwight Hirst. “We killed off the first one, but then they scored on the second penalty. Those back-to-back penalties gave them energy to gain some momentum.”
The Nighthawks are back in action with another road game on March 4 against the Virden Oil Capitals. The puck drops at 7:30 p.m.
“We need a full commitment to our identity and what makes us successful, not periods or shifts of success,” says Hirst. “A full dedication to 60 minutes is what will make us successful against Virden.”
