Performance Insulation will become the newest business to set up shop in the Niverville Business Park later this month when they move into their location at 726 Schultz Avenue. Owner Ben Bullert established the business in 2013 and incorporated it in 2015.

“I am originally from B.C.,” says Bullert. “I’m a Red Seal millwright, a heavy duty mechanic. I have family in this area and came to visit quite often. My brother-in-law was in the drywall business, and he told me he really needed an insulator. Spray foam and attic insulation was the main thing back then.”

That was five years ago, and the company has tripled in growth every year since. Bullert credits word of mouth as the biggest factor to their exponential growth.

“Work just kept coming our way,” he adds. “I didn’t advertise at all… I never said no to any job.”

When it came time to upgrade their space from a leased location just north of Steinbach, Bullert considered his options. After visiting the Niverville Business Park to quote on some possible work, he became aware of the lots for sale and decided to make some inquiries. The price and location appealed to Bullert and he began the purchase and development process.

Leonard Schulz, Performance Insulation’s office manager, agreed that the Niverville option was appealing.

“We were looking for a suitable lot to build a shop,” says Schulz. “We have lots of business in Winnipeg, and Niverville is a good compromise between Steinbach and Winnipeg. The price Niverville offered for the lot and the support we had through the preparations for the build itself was very positive… working with the Town of Niverville was a very positive experience.”

Schulz also highlights the Business Incentive Grant administered by the Town of Niverville, which was a definite factor in their decision to come to town.

“We’re still a small business,” Schulz says. “Yes, we’re growing, but we will take anything we can [to help]. It was a good decision to move to Niverville.”

Performance Insulation provides comprehensive insulation services to meet a variety of needs in the residential construction and renovation industry. They are the only BIBS-certified (Blow-in Blanket System) installer in the province. They also do a lot of work through the Manitoba Hydro’s Home Insulation Program, which allows older homes to receive credit from Manitoba Hydro to improve their insulation.

“We are certified by Manitoba Hydro to do that work,” Schulz says. “We also do the whole application process for the customer as well. We do blow-in wall insulation, we do attic insulation, and lots of spray foam these days. I would cautiously say we’re one of the biggest operations for spray foam in Manitoba.”

Performance Insulation’s growth has remained strong. Bullert has already made plans to expand their new location in spring to keep up with space requirements.

“What we put up there right now is already too small for us,” Bullert says. “We’re actually planning on putting up an addition in spring once the snow is gone. We have the preliminary drawings already made up.”

Bullert credits a few factors of the business that have made them so successful.

“We take care of our clients,” he says. “We do awesome work. Our guys are trained. We picked out the best guys and made a pretty good team. Our customer service is excellent. If something goes wrong, we’re there.”
