The Niverville Pizza Wars are set to take place May 3–10. The Niverville Chamber of Commerce has welcomed all pizzerias and restaurants in Niverville to compete in the friendly one-week competition to showcase their pie-making skills.
Participating pizza-makers have chosen an existing pizza they make or invented a brand-new creation to represent their establishment in the competition. Customers are encouraged to visit, taste, and vote for their favourite and most creative pizzas.
The pizzas are then eligible to win one of two awards: Best Tasting or Most Creative.
“This is a call to all pizzerias and restaurants in Niverville, the undisputed home of pizza, to showcase their culinary prowess,” says Bre-Ann Boulet, executive director of Niverville’s Chamber of Commerce. “Who among you will claim the coveted title and reign supreme in the realms of taste and creativity?”
In acknowledgement of Niverville’s growing number of pizza places, Boulet says the idea was cooked up by town councillors, who then pitched it to the Chamber to encourage them to lean into the town’s pizza reputation.
Organizers hope restaurants will be tempted by the significant bragging rights available—and that Niverville residents will take pride in the number of pizza places on the town’s menu, taking the opportunity to sample every one!
“It’s not just about the flavours that dance on the palate, but also the innovation that captures the eye,” says Boulet.
Niverville Chicken Chef leaped at the chance to put their pie in the oven. They’re excited to showcase a brand-new creation, a never-before-seen combination of sweet and spicy.
“It’s our take on a hot honey pizza,” says owner Laura Mulvena. “It has our homemade dough and sauce, salami, hot peppers, mozzarella cheese and goat cheese, and finished off with that drizzle of hot honey. It’s spectacular.”
Mulvena saw the opportunity to put her creation together as a chance to showcase their restaurant’s creativity.
“If it does well, we would love to see it stick around. Who knows? Maybe it would end up on the menu for the entire chain!”
Niverville’s Santa Lucia is offering The Nighthawk.
According to the location’s manager, Dean Delorme, this new pizza has a homemade barbeque sauce.
“The pie is topped with boneless dry ribs, chopped up and tossed with lemon pepper, banana peppers, and pineapple,” Delorme says. “It’s then drizzled with homemade electric honey and finished off with a handful of boneless dry ribs in the middle.
Hespeler’s Cookhouse & Tavern is putting their own spin on the contest, by entering their “FFG” pizza—meaning Fantastic Fig & Goat.
The town’s Domino’s location is taking part as well. Instead of a traditional pizza, they are asking people to give their stuffed cheesy bread a try.
Boulet invites the surrounding communities to also come over and see what Niverville’s pizza places are all about, noting that May 3–4 in particular will be a great weekend to visit, as the weekend coincides with the community garage sale.
“In a serendipitous twist, Pizza Wars kicks off in conjunction with Niverville’s much-anticipated garage sale weekend, promising a bustling atmosphere and an influx of potential new patrons eager to explore your culinary delights.”
Who will emerge victorious? Let the battle begin!
