According to a bulletin released by the provincial government, repairs to the gas pipelines operated by Imperial Oil Ltd. are still on schedule for a mid-June completion.
The pipelines, located just south of St. Adolphe, were shut down in March due to integrity concerns which were identified during a period of preventative maintenance. At the time, it was indicated that no products were spilled into the environment at the damage site.
As of today, one of the two fuel lines which run beneath the Red River has been fully restored to service.
“This repair restores a partial flow of fuel through the pipeline and will significantly reduce the volume of fuel that has to be alternatively delivered by rail and truck,” the statement reads.
The Winnipeg Products Pipeline (WPP) transports gasoline, diesel, and jet fuel to supply agencies in Winnipeg and the greater Winnipeg region. Used by Imperial and other third-party customers, it is said to transport up to 12,000 barrels of fuel per day.
“Provincial inspectors will continue to monitor the repair operation to ensure all regulations and environmental protection measures are followed as repairs to the second fuel line are completed in order to return the pipeline to full operation,” the statement concludes.
