When Were the Good Old Days?

In 1976 in Chowchilla, California, a bus full of children was hijacked by three men who had the intention of holding the students for ransom. A dreadful 36 hours later, the children all made it home relatively unscathed. They were hungry, thirsty, and absolutely terrified, but they were also physically unharmed.

Ritchot’s council hosted a special delegation at their May 22 meeting which once again resulted in a full council chamber. Many of those in attendance were residents who live along Marchand Road. They were represented by delegate and neighbour, Jim Wilderman.

On May 22, the Niverville Nighthawks announced some changes to its hockey operations department, naming Mike McAulay as general manager and Dwight Hirst as head coach. Tyler Anderson has also been named assistant coach.

Niverville High School Teaching Model Under the Microscope

Much of the following information about life inside Niverville High School was provided by parents of students and one former student. The Hanover School Division declined The Citizen’s request for an interview with Principal Kimberley Funk and Funk did not respond to a direct request for an interview. The superintendent of HSD, Shelley Amos, also declined a request for an interview. However, upon further prompting, vice-superintendent Colin Campbell did agree to answer some questions. Michael Zwaagstra also declined an interview, although his relevant writings on the subject of PBL have been quoted.

Providence Sports Round-Up: The Pilots Return from Winter Break

The Providence Pilots are back in action after a well-deserved winter break. In women’s basketball, the Pilots defeated Free Lutheran Bible College 81–39 on January 12. For the next two days, they played Oak Hills Christian College, losing their first game 83–88, then capturing a 112–103 victory the next day.
