After 75 years of offering Christian education services to southeast Manitoba, the Steinbach Christian School (SCS) has become a cornerstone institution—and it is continuing to grow. Over the past three years, SCS’s enrolment has increased by a remarkable 60 percent.

The SCS campus, once shared with Steinbach Bible College, will soon be taken over fully by SCS students and staff to make room for growth. This past spring, renovations began on the Bible college space to create four new classrooms, an art room, and a media lab.

This additional space will open to students in the fall of 2026.

“We are listening to the community’s interest in Christian education and are committed to trusting God’s guidance as we grow in faith,” says principal Thor Barkman. “Our board of directors is committed to praying diligently for our school and are excited about creating new opportunities.”

Also among those opportunities is a newly dedicated bus route for rural students. The bus route offers daily pickup and drop-off of SCS students in Niverville with an additional pickup point in Blumenort.

“Access to Christian Education is important,” says Barkman. “This bus route has helped many families with scheduling and made access easier.”

This new route came as a direct response to parent engagement in Niverville last year. In late 2024 and early 2025, SCS administration held information meetings in the town to gauge interest in an SCS satellite school opening in the community.

As of February 2025, 60 expressions of interest were received with 20 additional responses indicating an interest in local Christian education when their children turn school age.

SCS continues to explore a Kindergarten to Grade Four school in Niverville,” says SCS public relations person Dylan Zacharias. “They plan to meet with interested families in the coming months.”

In the meantime, an expression of interest form is still available on the school’s website.

According to the site, only five or six more students are needed to make the early years program a reality. Another ten to fifteen are needed to create a local Kindergarten program.

At this stage, costs for annual tuition are estimated at $2,500 for Kindergarten students and $3,990 for Grades One through Four.
