The third annual Trunk or Treat, in support of the Scorpions Elite Cheer, is happening on Saturday, October 27 in Steinbach.

The event started three years ago to introduce the community to the sport of cheerleading. It has since grown into a real community event where families get to experience an expedited trick-or-treating experience while participating in fun games and activities.

Trunk or Treat is held in the Scorpions Elite Cheer parking lot and features volunteers who decorate the trunks of their vehicles and hand out candy.

“This event is the best trick or treating you will ever do,” says Scorpions owner/director Tammy Recksiedler. “Not only does it take minutes to fill your bags with candy, we have tons of fun organized games inside our facility for the kids. To top it all off, we have a cheerleading demo with acrobatic stunts and tumbling.”

The cheer club is located on Bush Farm Road and believes in offering an elite program while focusing on safety, fitness, and having fun, according to their website. One hundred percent of the funds raised from the annual event go towards helping offset some competition trip costs for the athletes.

The night starts at 5:00 p.m. and runs until 7:00 p.m., with a variety of children’s games and activities running throughout the night.

“Each year we try to pick a bunch of different games where the kids can win more candy and prizes,” says Recksiedler.

The games, which are $5 per person, include a witch’s hat ring toss, eyeball spoon race, a 30-foot trampoline, face-painting, and much more. The night will wrap up with a costume contest and a chance to win some prizes.

According to Recksiedler, an evening at Trunk or Treat has seen over 200 kids in previous years, and 15 vehicles have already signed up to participate in this year’s event.
