With extreme heat conditions persisting, along with high winds and a lack of precipitation, the provincial government is declaring a state of wildfire emergency in some areas of Manitoba.

The worst of these conditions exist along the province’s eastern border. Evacuation orders are now in effect for the provincial parks of Nopiming, Wallace Lake, South Atikaki, and Manigotagan River. Those parks will remain closed until conditions improve.

Also included in the evacuation order are areas in the Bird, Booster, Davidson, and Flanders Lakes region, as well as the Long and Beresford Lake regions. Cottagers, business operators, and campers are asked to evacuate by noon today.

Until further notice, recreation areas such as trails, beaches, canoe routes, and camp spots in these areas are closed to the public.

As a result of an out-of-control wildfire in western Ontario, closures are also being enacted in Whiteshell Provincial Park. This includes the Mantario Trail, the Whiteshell River self-guiding trail, and the water routes, portages, and backcountry campsites along the Whiteshell River and Mantario area from Caddy Lake to Lone Island Lake.
