The Town of Niverville’s Fire and Emergency Services department is currently accepting applications. Applicants must be residents of Niverville, at least 18 years old, and be willing to complete the required training courses within 36 months of being hired.
“[Our department] is a very team oriented group,” says Chief Keith Bueckert. “Persons interested in this position must work well in groups and be able to follow instruction. The group is a very tight group that is dedicated, motivated, and takes pride in serving its community. The group is a big family that helps each other out.”
Bueckert adds that new members will be trained according to National Fire Protection Association standards for Level 1 firefighters. Training also includes hazmat operations, CPR/First Aid, vehicle extraction, and familiarity with the Incident Command System.
“This takes between 12 and 36 months,” Bueckert says. “Members can also take water rescue training and pump operation training.”
To earn the right to drive the town’s fleet of emergency vehicles, an applicant will need to have a Class 4 driver’s license with air brake.
“Being part of the Fire/EMS service in Niverville has continued to be one of the best decisions I ever made,” he adds. “I can’t put it into words. I love it!”
Applications can be picked up at the town office at 86 Main Street, although it should be noted that the town office is in the process of moving to its new location at 329 Bronstone Drive. The new office is expected to open on Tuesday, May 7.
Each applicant will also need to provide a drivers abstract and criminal record check. The deadline for applications is Friday, May 31.
