Winter Carnivals Galore

Share:

For folks who are looking to get out of the house, there are multiple winter events happening in the area throughout February.

In New Bothwell, the town’s Winter Carnival festivities begin on Friday, February 9 at 6:00 p.m. with all-ages ice skating and an outdoor bonfire with a hot dog roast. At 6:30 p.m., the toboggan slide sees its grand opening, and the annual cribbage tournament starts at 7:00 p.m. Registration is $20 per team. Also at 7:00 p.m., check out a kids movie with popcorn! Other snacks will be available for purchase from the canteen, both Friday night and during the day on Saturday.

Saturday starts off with a pancake breakfast from 8:30–10:30 a.m., followed by free kids activities, including a colouring contest, a clown, and games. Bingo starts at 2:00 p.m., scrambles at 4:00 p.m., and silent auction draws take place at 7:00 p.m..

Meanwhile, Steinbach’s Mennonite Heritage Village will host its Winter Carnival the following weekend, on Saturday, February 17. From 10:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m., visitors to the Village will be treated to a variety of outdoor activities. Games will include a tug-of-war, snow bowling, a ring toss, snowman golf, and races. Other outdoor activities—such as ice skating, snowman-building contests, sleigh rides, a bonfire, and a snow-castle-building contest—will keep people of all ages busy.

Visitors can keep warm with hot chocolate and s’mores. Regular admission rates for the Heritage Village will apply during the carnival: $12 for adults, $10 for seniors and students, $5 for children ages 6–12, and free for children five and under.
