The Niverville Nighthawks started off their road trip with a big 5–1 win over the Northern Manitoba Blizzard in The Pas on Friday night. With the win, the Nighthawks stay in fifth place in the MJHL’s East Division with a record of 15–9–1.
The Nighthawks came into a tough barn and put their best foot forward right from the opening puck drop. Niverville carried the pace of play from early on, scoring twice in the first period, once in the second period, and twice in the third period to pick up the win.
Carter Spirig led the way with a pair of goals while Matteo Speranza, Adam Vigfusson, and Dawson Zeller had the other Nighthawks tallies.
Niverville’s Austin Dubinsky was excellent once again, managing to stop 35 shots.
“It was a big win to start the road trip,” says Nighthawks head coach Dwight Hirst. “We played a smart game and took what’s available when it was available. We were great at riding the momentums of a game and being conscious of those decisions.”
Vigfusson has had a very strong start to the season. So far he leads the club with 17 goals and 14 assists for 31 points in 25 games.
“He’s great at working at the things that have made him successful, and this is the case with Viggy,” says Hirst. “He’s playing a style that is his trademark and it’s showing on the scoreboard.”
The Nighthawks are back in action with another road game tonight against the Swan Valley Stampeders. The puck drops at 7:00 p.m.
