Great Canadian Dollar Store Coming to Niverville

Niverville and surrounding area will soon be able to cut out one extra trip to the city. Construction on the Great Canadian Dollar Store will begin early this summer and provide the region’s thrifty shoppers with over 6,500 square feet of great deals.

Located at 40 Drovers Run, the store, along with a Dairy Queen restaurant, will be one of the newest features along Niverville’s business hub bordering the golf course on the west end of town. An ample parking area will tie in with the existing parking at Tim Horton’s and the Shell gas station.

Construction is already underway. Three Way Builders of Steinbach has been contracted for the build.

“Our goal is to use as many local trades and suppliers as possible in the development of the project,” says Ray Dowse of Westside Properties Inc. in Niverville. Len Neufeld, owner of Three Way Builders, is a partner in Westside Properties Inc. along with Dan Harder.

Franchisees Owen Reimer and Travis Neufeld look forward to branching into their fourth store in the region. Their other stores are located in Morden, Portage la Prairie, and Steinbach.

“[This is] a company that is very supportive of smaller communities and has great values that make it a pleasure to work with,” says Reimer. “They want the best possible shopping experience for the customers, and so do we as the business owners.”

He adds that, as much as possible, the Niverville location will hire employees local to the area. The store will provide a range of items not currently available here including party supplies, housewares, toys, and seasonal items. The Great Canadian Dollar Store will also offer items unique to other dollar store franchises such as bedsheets, roller blinds, helium balloons, and quality toys and books.

This all-Canadian franchise has been in business for 25 years, spreading out with 114 stores from coast to coast and as far north as Whitehorse. Their goal is to encourage franchisees to a focus on quality, value, and exceptional customer service. This, they say, is what makes them great.

The dollar store will comprise only one part of the multi-unit commercial development. Phase one will include two separate buildings, the first of which will include the dollar store plus an additional 2,475 square feet of space for the inclusion of one or two more businesses with their own storefronts. The second will be occupied by the recently announced Dairy Queen.

Phase two will include a third commercial building just east of the restaurant. In total, 31,000 square feet of commercial retail space will soon be available at this site.

“I am in conversation with several other organizations that have an interest in potential occupancy in future phases at this site,” says Dowse. “I’m optimistic, based on current interest, that more announcements for future phases will be made in the not so distant future. Niverville and region are now at a population where these businesses can not only come to town and sustain themselves, but also flourish as growth in the town and region continue. I am very pleased to see this project move forward and excited for the franchisees as they invest in our community. It’s exciting to see new amenities and jobs being created locally.”
