This year’s Winnipeg Jets are consistently inconsistent. They have played some good hockey and some bad hockey in their first 12 games, where they went 6–6–0, ranking twenty-first in the NHL.

The Niverville Panthers, with a 5–1 win over Gabrielle Roy in mid-October, earned the honour of representing Zone 13 at the Provincial A–AAA High School Soccer Championships, held October 18–19 in Minnedosa.

A new year has begun for the Red River Rage, the local ringette club which has seven teams competing this year. All of the teams play out of the arenas in Niverville and Ste. Agathe, but the players come from such communities as Niverville, St. Adolphe, Morris, and St. Jean. The Rage has teams for girls of all ages, from beginners to those who are in their late teens.

After a wild start to the season, the Winnipeg Jets find themselves with a 4–3–0 record. The turnover on defence over the offseason has been well documented and the potent offence, led by the trio of Patrik Laine, Mark Scheifele and Blake Wheeler with three goals each, has already had to overcome several defensive lapses. Many of these defensive errors are due to a lack of size and experience, which makes it difficult for the new defencemen to out-muscle their opponent and protect the high-danger zones, which is typically the areas within 20 feet of their net.

At a regular meeting of Niverville’s council on the morning of Tuesday, October 8, the announcement was made that Niverville is in the running to host the 2022 Manitoba Winter Games.

The turbulence faced by the Winnipeg Jets in the offseason and 2019 training camp has been well-documented. The team saw the departures of defensemen Jacob Trouba (New York Rangers), Tyler Myers (Vancouver Canucks), Ben Chiarot (Montreal Canadiens), and Joe Morrow (unsigned), as well as forward Brandon Tanev (Pittsburgh Penguins).
