Niverville’s town council met on the evening of Tuesday, February 15 for a regularly scheduled meeting. There were multiple issues on the agenda, many of which brought out residents to voice their concerns and opinions.

Many of us have had the experience of waking up early, checking the school’s website (or, in times gone by, listening to the radio), and hearing that our school was closed for the day due to inclement weather. A true Manitoba school day has often been met with whoops and hollers of joy, especially if the temperatures were moderate enough for us to play outside.

Many local residents are, to put it mildly, exhausted by the weather we’ve endured so far this winter and convinced it’s the worst January we’ve had in years. But do the numbers back that up?

Niverville is the fastest growing town in Manitoba with a population over 5,000, according to the first wave of 2021 census data released by Statistics Canada.

A new restaurant is soon to join Niverville’s business community. This year construction will begin on a new commercial strip mall on Drovers Run, the anchor tenant of which will be a Smitty’s location.

The RM of Ritchot and the Town of Niverville both had record-breaking construction years in 2021.
