The Niverville Nighthawks are proud members of the Manitoba Junior Hockey League (MJHL), committed to providing high-quality, community-driven hockey experiences. We are seeking a dynamic and engaging Play-by-Play Broadcaster to bring the excitement of Nighthawks hockey to fans across various platforms during the upcoming season.

*If you haven’t done play-by-play in hockey before, the expectation will be that you find a hockey clip, remove the audio, and do your own play-by-play overtop of the video clip.

Position Overview

The Play-by-Play Broadcaster is the voice of the Niverville Nighthawks during all home games. You will deliver real-time commentary, engage fans through informative and energetic broadcasts, and represent the team on both traditional and digital media platforms.

Key Responsibilities

Provide live play-by-play commentary for all HOME regular season and playoff games, including home games scheduled at alternate locations (like showcase games)

Build an on-air broadcast experience that would include pregame, intermission, and postgame shows, including interviews with players, coaches, and staff

Collaborate with the team’s media, marketing, and game operations staff to ensure professional, consistent coverage, and sponsorship commitments

Manage the technical setup for broadcasts including audio, livestreaming software, and social media integration (assistance available)

Maintain a high standard of professionalism and neutrality on air, while promoting the team brand

Produce game recaps, highlight packages, and other content as needed for the Nighthawks’ website and social media

Game Day social media update posts like Period Summaries or Game Final Scores for both HOME and AWAY games

Provide support for community engagement and promotional events (optional or as requested)

Support the growth of our production experience with our High School and volunteers.

Audio/Video editing skills (Adobe Premiere, Audacity, Canva etc.)

Ability to produce written content (e.g., game recaps, player features)

Qualifications

Prior experience in sports broadcasting, preferably hockey

Strong knowledge of the game of hockey, including MJHL or Junior A level

Confident, clear, and engaging on-air voice and presence

Ability to work independently

Experience with broadcasting tools such as Mixlr, HockeyTV, YouTube, OBS, or similar platforms

Strong interpersonal and communication skills

Willingness to represent the team in public and media settings

Must be available for weeknight and weekend games, including travel where required


Assets (Not Required)

Familiarity with the MJHL, Niverville community, or Manitoba hockey landscape

Experience with sponsorship reads and in-broadcast advertising

Radio Broadcasting (mixler)

Experience with video software to build on-air graphics or advertisements
