The Niverville Nighthawks improved to a perfect 4–0 on the preseason with a 4–3 overtime win over the Selkirk Steelers at the CRRC on Wednesday evening.
The Steelers came out strong, getting on the scoreboard first in the opening period with a pair of goals to lead 2–0.
In the second period, the Nighthawks cut the deficit to 2–1 when Dawson Zeller scored his second goal of the preseason.
In the third period, Selkirk extended their lead to 3–1 before the Nighthawks stormed back. Niverville scored twice with goals from Merik Boles and Dawson Zeller to tie the game at 3–3 and force overtime.
Near the end of overtime, Hayden Wheddon was the hero for the Nighthawks, scoring while on the power play to give the home team the 4–3 victory.
The Nighthawks outshot the Steelers 34-30 on the night and received solid goaltending from both Joseph Bertram and Keegan Gordon, who made a combined 27 saves on the night. They split the game in net.
The Nighthawks will play their final preseason game at home on September 14 against the Steinbach Pistons. The puck drops at 7:30 p.m.
