The Niverville Nighthawks came back down to earth on Saturday night. After a six-game winning streak, they got whacked 7–2 on the road by the Neepawa Titans. With the loss, the Nighthawks stay in fifth place in the MJHL’s East Division with a record of 12–8–0.

Neepawa came out to play and jumped out to a quick lead by scoring four times in the first period. They extended that lead to 5–0 early in the second period before Bryce Warkentine scored his third goal of the season for Niverville.

The Titans continued their onslaught, scoring scored twice more in the second period, although Dawson Zeller got one back midway through the third period as the game.

In the end Niverville’s Austin Dubinsky made 19 saves in a game where the Nighthawks outshot Neepawa 32–26

“It was a tough game for the entire group tonight,” says Nighthawks head coach Dwight Hirst. “We were not ready mentally and it reflected in our efforts. There was poor passing and poor decision-making, and being second to pucks will do that to a team on the scoreboard.”

It’s a quick turnaround as the Nighthawks are back in action for a home game tonight against the Winkler Flyers. The puck drops at 6:00 p.m.

“We just need to flush tonight’s game and move on quickly,” says Hirst.
