Niverville’s CRRC has been open to the public for one year and the Town of Niverville is ready to throw a celebration.
On Friday, September 16, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m., the town’s rec department invites residents of Niverville to join them for three hours of community fun, free of charge.
There will be activities for every age group spread throughout the facility.
“It’s set up so that people will get to see the whole facility and not just the areas they are used to visiting,” says event coordinator Mariah Fehr.
The fieldhouse will come alive with minute-to-win-it games for the whole family. Fehr describes these as fast-paced one-on-one competitions. Every winner will be entered into draws for prizes from the canteen.
“We plan on doing a draw every hour,” Fehr says. “At 8:00, we’ll draw the grand prize, which will be a free one-hour fieldhouse rental in a third of the gym.”
The running track on the upper-level mezzanine will be put to use with track races. Families can also enjoy some inflatable bowling or test their slap shot on a Shooter Tutor goal and synthetic ice.
The two-storey play structure, a favourite feature for many, will be open all evening for kids to climb and interact. Parents are reminded to bring socks for the children to use in the play area.
A Kiddie Corner in an upper level multipurpose room will provide activities to keep the wee ones busy.
The night wouldn’t be complete without lacing up the skates and hitting the arena ice that’s now home to the Niverville Nighthawks. Public skating will be available from 5:15 until 6:45, followed by Sticks and Rings until 8:00 p.m.
The event will open an hour early for those wanting some Sticks and Pucks time from 4:00–5:00 p.m.
The canteen will be open for regular drinks and snacks, although at this stage Fehr says that it’s still unclear as to whether they’ll be equipped to serve hot food in time for the event. Families are encouraged to bring their own bag meals, if they wish, to be enjoyed at the variety of café tables on the main floor.
