Road repairs along Highway 311 in Niverville continue to dawdle along, in spite of the fact that the original deadline for construction was set for the middle of July.
Six weeks later, westbound traffic is still being diverted past the CRRC while commuters heading east are funnelled down a single lane of traffic.
Niverville CAO Eric King explains the construction delay.
“There have been 14 rain days plus a couple more since my last meeting with the [road construction team],” says King. “Water and road construction do not go hand in hand. [According to] the last update we had, [they are aiming for] completion of everything except the lights before school start.”
Once complete, the community will have the benefit of a new intersection at Mulberry Avenue. About this time next year, council is hopeful that the community’s second traffic light will be in use at this corner.
The lights will eventually also provide a controlled pedestrian crossing for high school students seeking access to the amenities across the highway.
