On Wednesday, March 10, announced that pop-up clinics to administer COVID-19 vaccines will begin operations next week. Locally, a clinic will take place in Niverville at the Heritage Centre on March 25 from 10:30 a.m. until 6:30 p.m.
A pop-up vaccine clinic is also scheduled for the Pat Porter Active Living Centre in Steinbach on March 22 from 10:30 a.m. until 6:30 p.m.
The province advises people to have their consent form filled out prior to arrival, to avoid delays.
To be eligible to receive a vaccine at a pop-up clinic, individuals must be either 80 years old or older at the time of booking the appointment. First Nation individuals are eligible if they’re 60 or older.
A person may also be eligible if they work in personal care homes or are healthcare workers.
The AstraZeneca Vaccine
The AstraZeneca vaccine will soon be distributed and available primarily at medical and pharmacies across the province. Because this vaccine isn’t recommended for older individuals, a different group of people are being targeted.
Manitobans aged 50 to 64—or First Nations people aged 30 to 64—with a high-risk condition will be the first group eligible to receive this vaccine. These individuals are at increased risk of experiencing serious illness requiring hospitalization or death related to COVID-19.
People with high-risk conditions, as determined by their doctor or pharmacist, will be prioritized. See the link below to see if you may have a qualifying medical condition.
